Sunrise

The City of Sunrise was incorporated in 1961 and was originally known as Sunrise Golf Village. Sunrise is home to more than 85,000 residents with attractive neighborhoods ranging from private, gated, golf course communities to well-maintained condominium developments. The popular BB&T Center’s state-of-the-art arena hosts numerous entertainment events throughout the year and is home of the NHL’s Florida Panthers hockey team. Nearby Sawgrass Mills with its more than 350 stores, is the largest outlet and value retail shopping destination in the United States. Sunrise has emerged as the county's leader in commerce, having developed the largest corporate office park in South Florida. From humble beginnings, Sunrise has also grown into a sophisticated city of culture - offering residents and visitors abundant opportunities to experience art, theatre, fine dining and first-class entertainment. Located approximately six miles west of Fort Lauderdale on the edge of the Everglades; its central location provides easy access to the Sawgrass Expressway, I-95, the Florida Turnpike and I-595.
